Delivering flood risk management assets, like all other infrastructure, is going through a paradigm shift to ensure provision intrinsically supports the sustainability agenda – net zero, circular economy, net gain and social value. This talk looks, via the lens of activity on the Thames, at how current practice is changing its shape to deliver sustainably. From:

• strategy level approaches of using asset management, which echoes the premise of the architecture of the built environment – ‘the greenest building [flood risk management asset] is the one you already have’
• through, programme alignment that delivers to net zero and circular economy ambitions and targets, and
• and operational techniques such as Integrated Green Grey Infrastructure, and Estuary Edges approaches that deliver to net gain, and that are increasingly enabling social value benefits.
